About Ryan
Ryan Podolsky is the Founder and CEO of Rough Cut Entertainment, an independent film studio focused on making entertaining, character-driven films.
He grew up reading history, especially the story of America’s founding, and watching films about people who step forward under pressure. The questions those stories raised, about why some people rise to the occasion and why some teams hold together when others break, have shaped his work ever since.
Previously, he was CEO of Theorem Technologies, growing the company to roughly $2 billion in assets under management before its acquisition in 2024.
An early employee at Palantir, Ryan helped build the company’s government and private-sector businesses. Prior to that, he served three tours as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps.
Ryan holds a BA in Government from Stanford University and a JD from Yale Law School. He lives in Texas with his wife and children.

Responsibility doesn’t delegate
Ryan led Marines as an infantry platoon commander across three overseas deployments. What he took from it is that leadership is less about authority than about judgment: making decisions, owning the outcome and earning trust through competence.
On a joint training exercise in the Middle East, he rode at the back of a Marine helicopter, following the route on his own map and handheld GPS, and realized the aircraft was circling the wrong spot. He was only a passenger, but getting his team to the objective was his job, not the pilots’. He went forward to the cockpit and guided them to the right landing zone. The flying could be handed off; the responsibility could not.
“What are you willing to be responsible for?”

Five lessons from the Marine Corps
From the Authority Magazine interview, 2026
- /0.1
Winning takes care of the team
Comforts lift spirits until the next meal. Nothing builds morale like accomplishing the mission.
- /0.2
Leadership is learned
Treat it as a practice you keep refining, in yourself and in everyone on the team, not a trait people are born with.
- /0.3
Learn to lead mavericks
True mavericks are disruptive and carry real risk. Led well, they unlock value no one else can.
- /0.4
Decide before you’re certain
Waiting for perfect information is its own kind of failure. Gather what you can, decide, then adapt.
- /0.5
Ask for problems
Don’t insist on solutions first. Get problems surfaced early, especially the ones nobody knows how to solve.
